The White Pizza

The White Pizza

I remember Stacie telling me about the “white pizza” at Z Pizza. She said it was her favorite. She’d mentioned this after she’d been on her carb-free Ketogenic diet for some time, the diet she remained faithful to to help fight her brain cancer. Faithful until the very end/her new beginning. Stacie loved carbs, but she gave them up. Stacie loved my pizza. I used to make it for her, specifically my focaccia. Every time I see that red Z from the street, I think I ought to try the white pizza.

So last night John asked me what I wanted to do for dinner and I suggested we order a pizza. And I thought of that red Z.

It just so happens, John and I are planning another adventure. It’s one of the ways we keep things exciting. We’ve been looking at YouTube travel vlogs on our big screen in front of the fire the past couple nights. Since we’re headed to Morocco, I suggested we do some thematic eating and whet our appetite by trying the Moroccan place in Costa Mesa this week. He concurred. I like when he concurs. This also keeps things exciting.

I fired up the Z Pizza online menu and scanned the options. I didn’t see one called white pizza. Dang. I don’t see Stacie’s pizza.

What I did see, however, was the “Casablanca.” So, I perked up a bit. I read the description. Based on the toppings, it was the white pizza.

I love when the planets align and heaven smiles.

John and I ate the white Casablanca pizza. I don’t know much about Morocco or specifically Casablanca other than the movie I’d watched a thousand years ago (which we will revisit soon, of course) and the vlogs we’re watching this week…so I’m not sure why the white pizza is called “Casablanca.”  Based on the vlogs, Morocco is super colorful. If I had to guess, I’d say maybe it’s a reference to Humphrey Bogart’s white dinner jacket, maybe the white restaurant décor in the famous scene.

Stacie was colorful. That, I know.

More vibrant than ever, though, I imagine Stacie in white… in a heavenly scene. It whets my appetite for the ultimate adventure.

Of all the pizza places in all the world…of all the friends that could have visited, blessed and broken my heart, I’m so glad she walked into mine.
