The Cugina Chronicles: The Road to Amaya’s
The feminine for cousin in Italian is cugina. Whether we were hefting a giant banana in our single digits in California or approaching menopause in Monterosso al Mare, we’ve been a dynamic duo from the start.
Six years ago we spent a couple months in Italy, an adventure affectionately known as “Two Broads Go Abroad.” I still can hardly believe we got to do that. We went up and down the old country; we traversed the object of our collective passion. We embraced la dolce vita that spring of 2012, whether trains, planes, automobiles, vaporetto, on foot along the Cinque Terre or through the many cobblestone streets. If we walked together in our matching sandals or met up a little later to break bread to dip into the aglio e olio, I always found the road to Amaya was a good path. I could not have imagined the sweet things I would find.
