I woke to the ding of my phone this morning. I assumed it was the first of many threads about gratitude to come today. But it wasn’t, not really. It was a text from someone who truly knows and loves me and read my most recent post about gratitude. Her words: “I think someone read your post!”
I hope it resonates with you and frees you from others (and your own) expectations that you be something you’re not or feel something you don’t. Being in touch with reality helps us all—promotes self-acceptance and comes alongside others so that they feel less alone.
The article made me think of this Elizabeth Gilbert clip about embracing all the parts of ourselves. I don’t think she even mentions thankfulness or gratitude, but it’s under her umbrella. We don’t have to fall in line today and recite a script. Hiding is not mandatory, you know.
When you have the freedom to be exactly who and where you are, you have the freedom and space to be grateful. It’s Opposite World.
PS. I AM grateful for you, love, Thanksgiving Grinch
