The Hardest Thing to Remember

Long before I knew what tangled-up spaghetti really was, I loved this quote:

“Life is like a bowl of spaghetti; it’s good even when it’s all tangled up.” –Anonymous

It’s been on my counter or a shelf for what, thirty years, maybe? Forty? Packed into a box through how many moves? I don’t know. But I know it found a place in our home when I was ignorant of how tangled things could be.

I recently heard someone say, “I’ve never been in a storm that didn’t pass.”

It can feel terrifying when the “storm” seems to have lasted longer than it should and you start to wonder whether it will, in fact, end.

That’s the danger zone.

I have this Breaking Bad RV fridge magnet at eye level that says, “All bad things must come to an end.”

I’m drawn to it.

All bad things must come to an end.

This storm will pass.

The spaghetti will unsnarl.

This is the hardest thing for me to remember.

And now I’m reminding you.

In case you’re in it, too.

“Life is amazing. And then it’s awful. And then it’s amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it’s ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That’s just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it’s breathtakingly beautiful.”
